Military writers society to collaborate with the Army
The Military Writers Society of Nigeria (MWSN) said it will partner with the Army to encourage the military, help active duty officers, veterans and retirees to document their experiences through writings,and showcase its good work.
The chairman governing council of Military Writers Society of Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar Mohamad said this when the delegation of the Society paid a working visit to the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General U.S Mohammed at the Army Headquarters, Abuja. He called on the Nigerian Army to accept the Society as it is a great tool for disseminating information and promoting the good works of the military.
The Treasurer of the Society, Mr. Lazarus Samuel, a poet who represented the National President said that the ” Society was welcomes membership from the Armed forces especially officers and men who have a passion for writing.
” We are a Society of essayists, poets,novelists and journalists who believe that the Armed forces is a unique institution that deserves our support and encourage which we hope to give through pen and paper. We believe this Society will encourage and assist officers and men of the Armed forces to put down their experiences in written through poems and books for posterity. “
Responding, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Usman S. Mohammed said the platform is a welcome idea as the COAS is a good lover of scholarly works and a historian par excellence. He pledged maximum support for the Society and promised to communicate their message to the COAS.
“We shall communicate with our principal and see how we could collaborate together and make this Society to stand strong because it is in the best interest of the nation. I think it will be nice if MWSN can work together with the Nigerian Army Resource Centre,” said General Mohammed.
“The Military Writers Society of Nigeria was formed after the Military Writers Society of America. For those who want to know more about it,they can visit www.mwsnigeria.com,” said Auwal Umar, a member of the Governing Council.
It is expected that the Society will organise book readings, workshops, writing classes and help members to write and publish books
